Complaint regarding Wikipedia Page
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you in relation to the Wikipedia page titled, "Mohamed Sheikh, Baron Sheikh". I disagree with the following excerpt and would kindly ask that the following excerpt is removed from my page on the basis that I believe it was written with the intent to discredit me and damage my reputation.
"Lord Sheikh was present at International Conference on Monitoring the Palestinian Political and Legal Situation in the Light of Israeli Aggression in 2014, a Palestinian rights conference in Tunis, alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Sheikh said there "may have been" members of the democratically elected political party Hamas present at the conference, but that he did not speak to them.[2] Following these revelations, Zionist Conservative MPs Robert Halfon (a member of the Conservative Friends of Israel) and Zac Goldsmith called for an investigation into Lord Sheikh's appearance there, arguing that attending the conference was a breach of the party's code of conduct and that a failure of the party to investigate Sheikh would be seen as hypocritical.[8] Lord Sheikh denied any wrongdoing, calling the complaints "trivial" and "politically motivated" following Sheikh's condemnation of Johnson's controversial remarks.[9]"
The complaints to CCHQ were totally trivial and have no substance. The investigation by CCHQ regarding my attendance at the conference in Tunis, 2014, completely exonerated me of any wrongdoing.
As I was completely exonerated, I believe the inclusion of the investigation on my Wikipedia page is no longer relevant or necessary.
I think the Wikipedia page must be a true portrayal of what I have done and continue to do. For your benefit, I would like to insert below a short biography about myself which appears in the second book I have written ('An Indian in the House, the life and times of the four trailblazers who first brought India to the British Parliament').
"Mohamed Sheikh, Baron Sheikh of Cornhill in the City of London, was born in Kenya and brought up in Uganda, his parents originating from the sub-continent of India. He chairs businesses in the financial services and property sectors and has long been a leading figure in the insurance industry and also has an academic background. He is particularly involved in promoting inter-faith dialogue and undertaking humanitarian work. He has travelled widely overseas and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his community work worldwide. He can best be described as a businessman, philanthropist, academic and a writer.
Lord Sheikh is a Conservative Member of the House of Lords and participates regularly in parliamentary activities, holding senior positions in several All-Party Parliamentary Groups.
He was made a Life Baron in 2006 and is a Freeman of the City of London. He founded and funds a registered personal and family charity, the Sheikh Abdullah Foundation, in his father's memory.
This is Lord Sheikh's second book. His first, Emperor of the Five Rivers (2017), was an acclaimed account of the life of Maharajah Ranjit Singh, a 19th century leader of the Sikh Empire, who became a seminal figure in Indian history. The book was well received, and all proceeds were donated to a charity looking after orphans. The proceeds of this book will be donated to St Christopher's Hospice, a charity offering palliative care in London. He is now working on his third book which is a historical novel."
Furthermore, I would like to provide you with the following additional information.
I believe in promoting interfaith dialogue and my various activities are testimony to my belief of promoting harmony and peace between various racial or religious groups. I am a patron of five Muslim and non-Muslim organisations which promote harmony and peace between all the communities.
I have spoken against antisemitism and all forms of bigotry in my speeches, including what I have said in the House of Lords. Danny Stone MBE, Chief Executive of Antisemitism Policy Trust, said in response to my recent speech in antisemitism, "we are immensely grateful to you for continuing to speak out against anti-Jewish and indeed other forms of racism."
I have undertaken a great deal of work to combat terrorism and radicalisation; I have written reports which have been sent to the Prime Minister, other Ministers and leaders of communities. I have addressed meetings at Muslim centres, Mosques and at gatherings of other communities about integration, interfaith work, promoting the positive principles of Islam and how to combat radicalisation and terrorism in the country and elsewhere in the world.
I have been complimented by David Cameron and Theresa May for the interfaith work which I undertake. I have had a letter from David Cameron which says the following: "That is why we must do everything to defeat extremism and at the same time build a stronger, more cohesive society—and I appreciate very much the support you have given to our approach, and me personally, in this regard." I have also had a letter from Theresa May which says the following: "Thank you also for your outstanding work to promote integration and tackle radicalisation, particularly in your role as Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum."
I have supplied you with a detailed narrative which I hope will provide you with appropriate information concerning myself and I would like to reiterate that I believe what is written on my Wikipedia page should be a true reflection on what a person has done and continues to do.
I would very much appreciate it if this matter could be resolved and an adequate description of myself can now appear on my Wikipedia page.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Yours sincerely
The Lord Sheikh
