Bergt, Christian Gottlob August, organist of St. Peter's Church at Baugen, was born at Freyberg in 1772. He originally studied theology, but soon gave up that pursuit for music. Since the year 1801, he has published many admired vocal compositions for the church, theatre, and chamber. His grand chorus, "Christ Jesus," is said to be one of the most effective ever performed in England. It was sung at the Manchester Philharmonic Concerts.
