BRANDIS, SIR DIETRICH (1824–)
Born 1824: educated at the Universities of Copenhagen, Gottingen and Bonn: lecturer on Botany at Bonn, 1849: joined the Indian Forest Department in 1856: Inspr-General of Forests, 1864: C.I.E., 1878: retired, 1883: Member of the Board of Visitors of Cooper's Hill College, 1886: K.C.I.E., 1887: author of the Forest Flora of N.W. and Central India 1874: Director of the practical course of forestry on the Continent in connexion with Cooper's Hill College, 1887–96.
