Son of John Collins : born 1834 : called to the bar from Gray's Inn, 1860 : Q.C. and Bencher, 1877 : also a barrister of the Middle Temple : Recorder of Poole, 1873–9, and of Exeter, 1879–85 : Chief Justice of the High Court, Madras, 1885–99 : knighted, 1885 : Vice-Chancellor of the Madras University, 1889–99.
