SPURGIN, SIR JOHN BLICK (1821–1903)

Lt-General : entered the Army in 1842 : served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers till 1872 : Colonel of that regt. in 1895 : served with distinction through the mutiny : Brig-Major to General Neill at Cawnpur, and at the entry and defence of Lucknow : assisted Sir D. Russell at the capture of the Kaisarbagh and the final siege of Lucknow. His later service was in Ireland and England. He was made C.S.I, in 1869 : C.B. in 1871 : K.C.B. in 1893. He died in London, Nov. 27, 1903.
