Explanation
[edit]Description |
Though produced in the US in 1921, the film was not released in the United States for over 80 years due to Arbuckle's involvement in the Virginia Rappe death scandal; it received its first release in France in 1924 and also in Finland that same year. The film was first shown in the US in 1981, and was first published in the US in 2008. It can be said because of this unique situation that the source country, by Commons' standards, is France, even though this was not produced as a French film. One of the writers of the film died as late as 1980, so it cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons until 2051. However, it can be hosted here, because the first publication was in 1924 (despite being a foreign publication), so its copyright expired in the US. |
