Five Classics

The Five Classics (五經, Wǔjīng) is a corpus of five ancient Chinese books used by Confucianism as the basis of study. According to tradition, they were edited by Confucius, apart from the Spring and Autumn Annals of the State of Lu, which he wrote himself. There was originally a sixth classic—the Yue or Book of Music—but it was entirely lost before the Han dynasty.
