LOT THOMAS was born on the 17th of October, 1843, on a farm in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He received a liberal education and in 1868 he came to Iowa. He taught school near New Virginia, in Warren County, and during the time procured books and began to read law. In 1870 he entered the Law Department of the State University, graduated and was admitted to the bar. He took up his residence at Storm Lake and entered upon the practice of law. In 1884 he was elected Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial District, serving by reëlections until August, 1898, when he resigned to accept the Republican nomination for Congress in the Eleventh District. He was elected by a large majority and reëlected at the close of his first term.
