Citation translations

[edit]

On p. 25, the translation for a citation from Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia is apparently exact, but the citation given is for the French edition of Jefferson's work, entitled Observations sur la Virginie (incorrectly given as Notes sur la Virginie in the French edition; see https://archive.org/details/observationssurl00jeff ). I hope to find the same material in an English edition. A prospect is https://archive.org/details/notesonstateofvi1787jeff/ which may correspond to the French translation. And maybe I can find it in the later editions I have already transcribed at Notes on the State of Virginia. Library Guy (talk) 15:54, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

A complicating factor is that the translator reorganized the material, so there is not a linear relationship between the translation and the original. The translator says Jefferson gave permission for this approach, but the Library of Congress says he wasn't happy with the result. Library Guy (talk) 14:35, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
