How to treat redacted material?[edit]

This copy of the DoD's investigation was released in 1993 as part of the freedom of information act, but several details were redacted in order to protect the identities of the sailors involved. However, an earlier 1988 release of the documents includes some sections of the report which are less redacted than the one currently being used as a source. How should this be approached? for example, Page 7 of William Crowe's second endorsement has the 4th paragraph fully redacted, while I have found mulitple sources that do not suffer as much. Should the censored document be matched as much as possible, or should the declassified information be placed where it belongs? Legofan94 (talk) 23:59, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
