This transcription uses curly quotes, and distinguishes between ellipses of omission () and sequences of trailing dots (with {{...}}).

Style conventions[edit]

  • This transcription uses curly quotation marks and apostrophes (apostrophes are always ).
  • Dashes in text are reproduced either as an em dash, or as {{bar|2}}, depending on their length, with no leading or trailing space. In cases where a dash indicates an omission, {{longdash}} is used.
  • Distinction is made between italics of emphasis (with {{em text}}), italics for special terms (with ''...''), and blocks of italic text (with {{italic block}}).
  • Sometimes this text puts an opening quote on every line of a quoted text. In this case, the opening quote of every paragraph is maintained, and the whole piece is indented with {{left margin|2em}}.
    • This presents a problem when a numbered list is included in such a text; see for example page 362. Currently, this transcription puts the opening quote after the index number, but anyone who knows of a more elegant solution is welcome to change this.
  • I have tried to add language tags to terms, with {{lang}}. It seems to me more important that these are not incorrect, than that they are present, so they are not nearly everywhere. Adding more, or correcting them, is welcome.
  • Single and double apostrophes are separated with a narrow no-break space ( ).
  • Ellipses of omission should be created with a , but a sequence of trailing dots is expressed with {{...}}, with no space before and one space after.
