Initial style notes[edit]

In case someone wants to help with this (or pick up where I left off, should I appear to abandon this later), here are notes on what I'm doing:

  • All typewritten text is being formatted as-is, using the MediaWiki convention of putting a single space at the start of each line.
  • Handwritten notes are being excluded, except where items are being crossed out: in these cases I'm using <del> or <s> (haven't convinced myself to settle on one yet). Things like rubber stamps are also being excluded. I don't think these exclusions harm the context.
  • I am using the Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreader's special proofreading font, as the OCR is making a lot of errors due to the mostly all-caps text, the oddly-formatted dates, etc. In particular, zeroes and O's are all over the map.
  • Redactions: I'm using the {{redact2}} template, followed with a <ref> footnote to indicate the text within the redaction block. All <ref> tags contain a "name" attribute whose value is "redact-" followed by the actual text seen in the redaction. Every ref with the same name contains the exact same text. This will permit the automatic footnotes to consolidate themselves correctly, whether they're viewed in the Page namespace or the main namespace.
