The following text is reproduced from The Times of 28 January 1964. The communiqué was made on 27 January 1964. The Times also reported that on 10 February 1964 the Republic of China broke off diplomatic relations with France.

The Government of the French Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of China have jointly decided to establish diplomatic relations. To this effect, they have agreed to designate Ambassadors within three months.
