Louis Lawrence comes to Bar Harbour to spend a fortnight with the Miss Miners and——especially—their cousin Fanny Trehearne. He is an impecunious artist, not particularly physically gifted, the other a rich, athletic and handsome lady, much given to boating and riding. Then, too, there is the "physically perfect specimen"—a rival who appears on the scene.
