Brooks, William Cunliffe, M.P., B.A. (twelfth senior optime), St. John's Coll., Camb., 1842, M.A. 1847, J.P., D.L. Lancashire, J.P. Cheshire and Manchester, lord of the manor of Ashton-upon-Mersey, M.P. East Cheshire since 1869, a student of the Inner Temple 18 April, 1840 (then aged 20), called to the bar 28 June, 1848 (eldest son of Samuel Brooks, of Manchester, banker); born 30 Sept., 1819; married 1st, , 1842, Jane Elizabeth, dau. of late Ralph Orrell, Esq.; she died , 1865; he married 2ndly, , 1879, Jane, dau. of Lt.-Col. Davidson.
