Robert Lowe, home secretary, 1873-4, commissioner of Eastern Roumelia organization 1880, joint British plenipotentiary at conference in London Jan., 1883, M.P. Calne since 1868, a member of the Historical MSS. Commission, and a trustee of National Portrait Gallery, educated at Eton, a student of Lincoln's Inn 21 April, 1868 (then aged 21) called to the bar 17 Nov., 1871 (2nd son of Henry Petty, Marquis of Lansdowne, dec.); born 19 June, 1846.
