Smith, Frederic James, recorder of Margate 1869-85, a commissioner to inquire into corrupt practices at elections at Reigate 1866, a member of the South-eastern circuit, author of A Vade Mecum of General Practice in Appellate and Civil Cases at Quarter Sessions 1882, a student of the Middle Temple 27 May, 1840, called to the bar 9 June, 1843 (2nd son of James Smith, Esq., of Rochester, Kent); born , 1820; married 30 April, 1856, Susan Jane, eldest dau. of late William Hayward, Esq., of Watlington, Oxon, and the Downs, Darenth, Kent, and died 18 Feb., 1885.
