(honours) London Univ. 1879, B.A. prizeman 1872, and a member of Convocation, of St. Cuthbert's Coll., Durham, 1864-74, a student of the Inner Temple 14 Jan., 1876 (then aged 23), studentship in jurisprudence 1877, Whewell international law scholarship 1877, scholarship in equity 1877, called to the bar 18 Nov., 1878 (eldest surviving son of Scott Nasmyth Stokes, Esq., bar.-at-law and inspector of schools); born 18 Dec, 1852; married 6 Aug., 1884, Mary Fenwick, only child of Richard Christopher Rapier, Esq., of Brinkburn, Upper Tooting Park.
