Walcott, Sir Stephen, K.C.M.G. 30 May, 1877, chief colonial, land, and emigration commissioner 1877–8, chief secretary governor-general of Canada 1835–8, secretary to Emigration Commission 1840–60, second commissioner 1860–77, a student of Lincoln's Inn 27 Nov., 1822 (then aged 16), called to the bar 8 Feb., 1828 (eldest son of Robert John Walcott, of the island of Barbados); born , 1806; married 30 Jan., 1838, Frances Isabella, only dau. of John Davidson, commissioner of Crown lands Quebec (see Foster's Baronetage).
