Announcement
of Appointment of Chief of the Council for Democratic Reform
Bhumibol Adulyadej R
Whereas General Sonthi Boonyaratglin informed His Majesty that the public administration by the Government under the premiership of Police Lieutenant Colonel Thaksin Shinawatra had created problems of disaccord, polarisation, and disharmony amongst the people in the Nation in such a manner unpredictable in the history of the Thai Nation, causing most of the people to doubt and suspect that the public administration might have been performed in a manner involving rampant dishonesty and misconduct, dominating independent agencies, and leading various problems and obstacles to the carrying out of political activities, and despite the continuous attempts from many sectors in the society to settle and resolve the situations, the efforts to maintain public order had resulted in failure, necessitating a party of military officers, police officers, and civilians, headed by General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, to step in and seize the administrative power, and the general is now acting as the Chief of a Council for Democratic Reform;
For these reasons, in order to bring peace to the Country, His Majesty hereby issues a royal command appointing General Sonthi Boonyaratglin as the Chief of the Council for Democratic Reform, requesting all the people to remain calm, and requiring all the public officials and state authorities to listen to the orders given by General Sonthi Bunyaratkalin from now on.
