To conclude we cannot do better than quoting the following: “The grandeur of a Milton and the grace of a Dante, the universality of a Shakespeare, the sublimity of an Aristotle, the idealism of a Plato and the moral fervour of a Marcus Auraleus are all to be found in a harmonious blending and an appropriate proportion in this Bible of Mankind”.

It is unfortunate that the “Modern Companions to World literature” do not usually contain any reference to the Kural at all. Perhaps it may not be so much due to any intentional neglect as genuine lack of knowledge, and this is all the more strange because we find this book being eulogized by some of the great intellectuals of the West also. The UNESCO is doing invaluable service in including the Kural in the list of books to be translated in all languages. For long, I sported with the idea of bringing out a Bibliography of Thiruvalluvar for I thought I would be failing in my duty if I do not offer my mite to this mele cause. Hence this humble attempt of mine. This booklet contains three chapters dealing with (i) the definition and the scope of bibliography in general (ii) Tirukkural—A Bibliography and (iii) the Index. I have collected 150 titles and I do not presume that I have exhausted all the titles on Tiruvalluvar. As this is my first attempt in this
