During the past few decades, there has been a great awakening among scholars and considerable increase in tho desire to dive deep into the Tamil classics. The demand for Tamil literature has grown beyond measure. This has thrown a challenge to the library profession to develop better bibliographic organisation and control of Tamil literature.

This bibliography on Thirukkural is an attempt to meet the above challenge and a start to redress the bibliographical neglect pointed out above. It is a service to the research scholars in Tamil as well as to all those interested in Tamil literature. Such compilations have been a longfelt want and I have therefore great pleasure in congratulating Shri A. Thirumalaimuthuswamy for his compilation in this line of service to Tamil literature by his painstaking effort in collecting the literature on Kural and presenting the same as a bibliography.

Besides, this bibliography is also significant and commendable for its attempt to present the entries in Roman script. It is hoped that this attempt would stimulate bibliographies on other luminaries of Tamil literature, such as, Ilangovadigal, Kambar, and Bharathi and scores of others and assist in disseminating the glory of Tamil literature to distant lands.

Lastly I wish to add that a bibligraphical compilation of this kind which involves meticulous accuracy in presentation is bound to have minor errors of ommission and commission with scope for improvement in the later editions. The author certainly welcomes suggestions from readers and I hope this book will receive a warm welcome in Tamil Nad and outside as an encouragement to the author.
