Succ. 49b; Num. R. s. 21 ש׳ לשון וכ׳ (the word שכר) expresses gratification, satiiety &c., v. שביעה, a. רוייה; (Y. Succ. IV, 54a top חיבה, v. חבה). Nidd. 24b וכ׳ מרובה שששייתו מי he that drinks more than he eats &c.; a. fr.

שתיקה f. (שתק) silence. Yeb. 87b, a. fr. כהודאה ש׳ דמיא silence is tantamount to admission. שתך, a שתך (sec. r. ofגישך; cmp. שוכתא) to become rust-eaten, rust-colored. Taan. 8a (ref. to הנחש ישוך אם וכ׳, Koh. X, 11) וכ׳ כנחשת עליו משתכין . . . אם Rashi (ed. omitting עליו) when thou seest a generation over whom the heavens are rust-colored like copper, so as to let down no dew or rain; (Ar.משותכין; Ms. M. 2 וכ׳ שמשתכת דקיע...; ed. Pes. a. oth. שמשותן שמשתכין דור a generation whose suns are red-colored &c.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 5).
שתך, שתיךch. same, to be rust-bitten. B. Mets. 26a top טפי דשתיך (Ar. דאשתיך, with prefixed א) when the coin found in the ground is very much attacked by rust (show- ing that it has been in the ground a very long time). Pa. ששתך 1) to maake rusty, brittle. B. Bath. 19a משום לקדרה לה דמשתכי because they (the boulders, v. סלע) would eat away the pot (placed between them). - 2) to get rusty. Sabb. 102b וכ׳ דמשתכי כיון they would not do that (keep their needles in a hole in the ground), because they would get rusty.
שתל (b. h.; cmp. שית) to set, plant. Yoma 38b . . ראה ודור דוי בכל ושתלן עמד the Lord saw that the righteous men were few, so he planted them in every generation (distributed them &c., ref. to ISam.
