תוה, תוה (cmp. תהה) 1) to be perplexed; to fear, be anxious (coresp. tto h. חרד). Targ. O. Gen. XXVII, 33. Targ. Job XXXVII, 1יתוה (ed. Lag. יתווה; some ed. יתווא Pa.). Targ. Jer. XXXVI, 24 (h. text פחד). Targ. Y. Num. XXXIII, 24. Targ. Koh. IV, 16 חווהו ed. Lag. (ed. Vien. תיהו, read תוהו). Targ. O. Deut. XXVIII, 66, sq. תוה ed. Berl. (ed. Vien. תוה). Targ. Esth. תוה, תווה m. (preced.) anxiety. - Pl. תוהים, תוו׳. Sabb. 152a (ref. to חתחתים, Koh. XII, 5) ת׳ לבו נעשה Ms. M. (ed. ת׳ לו נעשה, some ed. נעשו, v. infra; Ag.. Hatt. תיוהין תיוהין) his heart is full of fears; Yalk. Koh. 989 תווהין תווהין לו נעשה it (the road) becomes for him full of terrors.
תוהא, תוו׳, תתיו׳ ch. same. 1) anxiety, terror; disgust. Targ. O. Gen. XXVII, 33 (some ed. תוהא). Targ- Ps. LXXVIII, 41, v. תוה. - 2) (of a building) threatening condition, indications of dilapidation. B. Bath. 3b בה חזי תת׳ they notice signs of ruin on it. - 3) mishap. B. Mets. 73a וכ׳ לא ת׳ ביה דהוה כיון (not דהוי, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 300) since a mishap may befall it (and the buyer must take the risk), the transaction has not the appear- ance of an advance ofmoney for a consideration (of usury, v. אגרא I); Rashi; cause for regret]. - [Koh. תתוהו, תהו m. (b. h.; תהה) waste, desolation; vanity, idleness. Snh. 9 7a וכ׳ ח׳ אלפים שני two thousand years the world was waste &c. Ib. 26b, v. שתת II. Gen. R. s. 2 (ref. to Gen. I, 2) ובהו לת׳ . . . קין זה this refers to Cain who wanted to reduce the world to waste and desolation; a. fr.

וויי m. (dial. forחוביי)= תוביה, overflow, inundation. Gen. R. s. 13 תת׳ כמין (׳Rashj; ת׳ כהדין; ed, Leips. תווין, corr. acc.) as from an overflowing river; ושמו בבבל נהר וכ׳ ת׳ (not בבל) there is a river (or canal) in Babylonia. which is named Tuvay, and why is it named T. ? Because it comes back and inundates once in forty years; Koh. R. to I, 7 תווהא (corr. acc.).

תווך, תוך m. (b. h.) middle. Num. R. s. 14c שני כנגד הפיל אשר הת׳ עמודי corresponding to the two middle pillars which he (Samson) pulled down. Y. Erub. V, 22a הת׳ שער the Middle Gate, name of a Temple gate. - v. תוך.
תווך Pi. (denom. of preced.) to divide in the middle, to halve. Y. Ber. I, 2d bot. (expl. התיכונה Jud.
