דררבן m. (b. h.; a contr. of דברברן, v. דבר) [leader,] goad, the iron point on the staff (מלמד); also the spud at the end of the handle of the ploughshare (v. Sm. Ant. s. vv. Aratrum a Catrinos). דרג to leap, step. -Hif. הדריג to make a step (מדרגה), i. e. to fell trees at uneven heights from the ground, so as to make the stumps appear like steps, opp. החליק to cut at even heights. Y. Shebi. IV, 35b bot. [read ] יהא לא וכ׳ ומחליק מדריג ומדריג מחליק he must not cut one portion even and another step-like, but must make the stumps equally high; יחליק לדריג ידריג . . מקום where it is the castom to cut even, he must (in the Sabbatical year) cut uneven &c.; Tosef. ib.
