הסתה f. (יסת or סות) seduction, enticement. Yoma 22b ׳ee דאא the sin against lriah and that of counting the people to which he was enticed (II Sam. XXIV, 1). Hull. 4b בדברים ה׳ אין enticing (the verb הסית) never applies to verbal persuasion (but only to sensual in- fluences). Sifre Deut. 87 טעות אלא ה׳ אין enticing means leading astray; גירוי אלא ה׳ אין it means instigation.
הסתר m. (Infn. Hif. of סתר) פנים ה׳ (from Deut. XXXI, 18) hiding of face, divine anger, refusal to answer prayer. Hag. 5a וכ׳ פ׳ בה׳ שאינו כל he who is not subject to the hiding of face (who does not suffer under general persecution) is none of them (not of Israelitish descent). Ib.b.
