אוכל m. (b. h. אכל; אכל) food, edible. Bets. I, 8 בורר ואוכל א׳ (Y. ed. אוכל אוכל בורר) he selects singly what is edible and eats immediately; a. fr. -- נפש א׳ the ne- cessary food for the day. Meg. אוכלא I ch. 1) same. Targ. Ps. LXXVIII, 18 (Ms. מיכלא). - Yoma 80b הוא א׳ א׳ אכשורי כל whatever is used for seasoning food, is considered as food. -- 2) the digested food found in the entrails, excrements, cmp. רעי. -Targ. Lev. I, 16; a. e. -3) an eye-disease, itching (cmp. חורשא). Ab. Zar. 28b א׳ תחלת the incipiency of &c., א׳ סוף last stage (near recovery).
אוכלא II m. (כול=אכל) prop. measure, hence (cmp. כיילאא) 1) a certain measure, lkhla, (basket); cmp. כלה. -- Y. Sot. I, 17a וא׳ ת׳ וחצי תומן one Tuman (one eighth of a kab), and half a T. and one Ikhla; cmp. עוכלא. -- 2) basket, v. אובלא II.
