חבה, חיבה f. (preced. wds.) love, esteem, honor. Koh. R. to V, 14 וכ׳ בח׳ לעולם בא man enters the world with love (caressed by his nearest), and leaves with love. Y. Bicc. II, 64' top ח׳ של מיתה לשבעה a death after seven days of sickness is a death of (divine) love; (ib.c bot. לשבעים ח׳ של מיתה, read שיבה). -- Ab. III, 14 וכ׳ יתירה ח׳ the greater divine love consists in its being made known to him &c. Hull. 33a, a. e. מכשרתן הקדש חיבת the honor in which sacred objects are held makes them fit for levitical uncleanness (even without contact with liquids, v. כשר). Ex. חבוט m. (חבט) pressed down, esp. habut, a legal. fiction by which an inclined projection is assumed to be like a horizontal plane. חבולה f. (b. h. חבלה; חבל 1) pledge. Tanh. B'shall. 19 (ref. to תחבל חבל, Ex. XXII, 25) . . . אחת ח׳ חבלת הרבה חבולות if thou seizest a pledge once, thou wilt. finally be seized many times (cmp. Ex. R. s. 31, quot. s. v. משכון); Yalk. Ex. 257; Mekh. B'shall., Vayassa, s. 1 (corr. acc.). Tosef. Keth. חבורה (חבורה) f. (b. h.; חכר 4) a mark of violence, wound, discoloring. B. Kam. VIII, 1 שאינו מקום ח׳ עושה a spot on which no wound is made by burning (e. g. on the nail). Snh. XI, 1 (85b) ח׳ בהן שיעשה עד unless by striking them he creates a wound; Y. ib. XI, beg. 30a נזקין כח׳ שבת כחבורת ח׳ באיזו what wound is meant here? One the creating of which would be a Sabbath offence (discoloring), or one of the kind required for claiming damages?; Mekh. Mishp., N'zikin, s. 5 מכה ח׳ בה שיש (in order to be punishable with death) it must be a beating which makes a wound (or a sore). Sabb. 107b חוזרת שאינה ח׳ a permanent discoloring.
