נקר I (b. h.; cmp. קרר I) 1) to dig, chisel, esp. to whet a millstone. M. Kat. 10a וכ׳ ריחים נוקרין you may roughen a millstone during the festive week. Sot. 46b ולנקור, v. infra. - 2) to bore, perforate; to put out. Sabb. 130a דקרו מוחו את they shall perforate(or put out)hhis brain. Sot.I, 8 וכ׳ פלשתים נקרו (or נקרו) the Philistines put out his eyes; a. e. -- 3) (of birds, mice, serpents &c.) to pick, gnaw at. Tosef. Ter. VII, 17. Y. ib. נקר m. (נקר I) bite, trace of a bite. Tosef. Ter. VII, 16 וכ׳ בתאינה ׳ if there was a bite to be seen in a fig, and it shrivelled (v. גרוגרת, -- which is an indication that it was not a serpent's bite). Y. ib. VIII, 46a top הג׳ מקום אכלו they (the birds) ate from a spot which had been bitten at (by a serpent); a. e. -- V. נישור.
