notch (v. אגר I); Tosef. ib. I, 7. Hull. l. c. בפסח עצם פגימת
a cut in the bone of a Passover lamb (forbidden in Ex.
XII, 46); אאוזןבבכור פ׳ a cut in the ear of a first-born animal
(by which it is rendered unfit as a sacrifice, and may be
eaten by the priest outside of the seat of the sanctuary);
בקדשים מום פפ the blemish, created by a cut, of a con-
secrated (female) sacrifice; המזבח פ׳ כדי פגימתן וכולן and
all of these incisions are measured by the standard of
an indentation in the altar; ib. 18a המזבח פ׳ וכמה and
how large is the indentation which unfits the altar; v.

פגימין, פגמין, פי׳ m. pl. (an adaptation of pegma. as iff fr. פגם) [the things which impair a Jew's civic gualifications,] a wooden structure for spectacles (v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Pegma). Y. R. Hash. I, 57c top; Y. Shebu. VII, 87a bot. וכ׳ פגימיו שישבר עד אותו מקבלין אין (the ex- hibitor of pigeon-races or beast-fights) is not deelared free from disqualifications, until he breaks up his scenery, and he is examined and found to have really repented; Tosef. Snh. V, 2 פגימיו ed. Zuck. (Var.פיגמיו); Bab. ib. 25b פגמיהן את משישברו.
פגין m., פגינא f. (denom. of פגא II) hard, unripe. - Pl. פגינין; f פגינן. Lev. R. s. 25 [read;] פ׳ ולא בשילן דהוון that they (the figs) were ripe (and soft) and not hard; Koh. R. to II, 20.
פגינותא, פגינתא f. (פגן) cry for help, prayer. Targ. Ps. XVIi, 1 פנינתי Ms. (ed. פגיעי; ed. Lag. פגיעתי). Ib. CII, 2 פגינתי ed. Lag. (oth. ed. פגינותי).

פגיעה f. (פגע) 1) meeting, contact, striking against. Y. B. Mets. II, end, 8a (ref. to Ex. XXIII, 4) ממש פ׳ יכול you might think, it means literally 'striking against (and not merely seeing); Bab. ib. 33a. Ib. שיש ראייה חיא ואיזו פ בה and what is aseeing' which may be called meeting'?; Yalk. Ex. 352. B. Kam. VIII, 4 וכ׳ רעה פגיעתן .. . העבד coming in (hostile) contact with a slave or a woman is bad, for he who injures them is made responsible, whereas if they injure you, they cannot be made responsible(having no property of their own). - 2) entreaty, prayer. Y. Ber. IV, 7b top (ref. to ויפגע, Gen. XXVIII, 11) תפלה אלא פ׳ אאין the expressmion pag a means prayer (with ref. to Jer.. XXVII, 18; VII, 16); Gen. R. s. 68; Sot. 14a; a. fr.

פגל (cmp. פגם) to mutilate; to make rejectable, loath- some; to unflt. -- Denom. פגל. Pi. פיגל (denom. of פגול) to make a sacrifice reectable through improper mental disposal (Lev. XIX, 7); to be the cause of becoming pigguuwl. Zeb. 13b מפגלת אצבע טבילת בחטאת the act of dipping the finger in the blood of the sin-offering (with an inappropriate mental disposal, e. g. with the intention of offering the limbs the next day) unfits the sacrifice. Men. II, 3 מפגל אינו . .. את מפגלת התודה התודה את an nappropriate intention connected with the thank-offering unfits also the bread (that goes with the thank-offering), bbut an inappropriate intentionwith regard to the bread does not affect the thank-offering. Ib. הכבשים מפגליןוכ׳ improper intentions connected with the offering of the lambs affect &c. Ib. 13b המתיר את מפגל מתיר אין one act which fits the sacrifice for eating (v. מתיר) cannot unfit another act of the same nature, e. g. if the priest on offering a handful of four had in mind an unlawful application of the frankincense, the latter is not hereby made rejectable. Ib. וכ׳ בשתיהן שיפגל עו until he had in his mind an improper application of both of them to the extent of the size of an olive. Ib. 17a הקטרה מפבלת הקטרה one offering burnt on the altar (if connected with an im- prroper intention) mmay cause the unfftness of another offer-- ing. Zeb. 28b מפגלין שלמים מה וכ׳ ומתפגלין as in the peace-offerings there are parts which create pigg4d (e. g. the sprinkling of the blood with s. wrong intention concerming the limbs or the fesh) andf again parts liable to become piggtt, so in all things liable tto become piggul, there must be parts which make, and parts which become paiggtd ; a. fr.
