קדושה f. (קדש) 1) holiness, sanctity, sacredness; chastity. Yeb. II, 3, a. e. ק׳ איסור, v. איסור. Kidd. 55a, a. fr. הגוף קדושת an object which is consecrated as such (ir- redeemable), opp. דמים ק׳ that which is consecrated for its value (redeemable). Tem. 10b הולד על ק׳ דמפרש משום because he has pronounced sanctity on the embryo (by dedicating tthe mother). Ib.a עוברין על חלה ק׳ אין no sanctification takes. efect on embryos (by the dedication of the mothers). Naz. XVI, 11. -- Meg. 27b דקביע . . . בית קדושתיה (Ms. M. קדושתא; sub. זמן) a synagogue whose sacred character is permanent; קדושתייהו . ארבע the four cubits surrounding a synagogue whose sacredness is not permanent (as it would cease with the removal of the synagogue).
