קום (b. h.) to stand up, rise; to stand, exist. Sifre Deut. 357 (ref. to Deut. XXXIV, 10) וכ׳ קם באומות אבל but among the nations he (a prophet like Moses) has existed &c.; R. Hash. 21b וכ׳ קם לא בנביאים among the prophets never one arose lik e Moses, but among the rulers one did arise (Solomon). Tanh. B'shall. 16 . . . הקם שכל וכ׳ קם כאילו whoever rises against Israel is considered as if he rose against the Sh'khinah. Ib. (ref. to Ex. I, 3 בחותמיו יתקיים let the genuineness of the document be established through its signers (the witnesses subscribed or through others identifying their slgnataures); a. fr. - 2) to be fulfilled, realieed. Macc. 24b וכ׳ נבואתו תתקיים שלא . . . נתקיימה שלא עד as long as the prophecy of briah (Mic. III, 12) was not fulfilled, I was afraid lest Zechariah's prophecy(Zech. VIII, 4) fail to come true; מתקיימת . .. שנתקיימה עכשיו now that Iriah's pro- phecy has been fulfilled, it is sure that Zechariah's will come true. Tosef. Snh. XI, 8; Y. ib.
