רתחא, רי׳ m. (preced.) 1) heat; anger, excitement. Targ. Ps. XIX, 7. 1b. XXXVII, 8. Ib. LXXVIII, 38 Ms. (ed. חמת׳); a. fr. -- Ber. 7a וכ׳ ר׳ איכא ומי is there anger before the Lord, i. e. is the Lord ever angry? Snh. 105a (ref. to Ez. XX, 33) וכ׳ לירתח ר׳ האי כי כל let the Merciful have all that anger, if he only redeem us; R. Hash. 32b; a. e. - Pl. רתחיא, רי׳. Targ. Ps. LXXVI, 11 (ed. דתחתה f. (preced. wds.) boiling pot; ר׳ מעשה a. cooked dish. Ned. VI, 2 (49a) אינו קדרה ממעשה הנודר ר׳ ממ׳ אלא אסור (Rashi רתחתא) if a person vows abstinence from what is made in a pot', he is forbidden only boiled dishes; Y. ib. 39c bot. רותחנה (corr. acc.).
רתי, דתה (cmp. דתת) [to tremble,] to be lax, lenient (cmp. רפה). Pi, דיתה to be indulgent, compassionate, lenient. Gen. R. s. 19 (ref. to היום לרוח, Gen. III, 8) שהיום כל עליו ד׳ וכ׳ the Lord was lenient to him, for the farther the day sinks, the cooler it grows, opp. הקשה; Yalk. ib. 27 ריתח (corr. acc.). Sifra Sh'mini, Par. 1, ch.
