שזף (b h.; Shaf of זף, v. זפף a. זפת) to blacken, tarnish. Cant. R. to I, 6 שזפתנו. . אאנו כך so it is with us, when the sun of idolatry blackened us (we may become white again); Yalk. ib. 982. - Part. pass. שף; pl. שזופים. Cant. XXVI, 31) וכ׳ לששה משזר לשלשה שזור . .. חוט נאמר אילו iff the text had hu (thread), it would have meant one doubled to two, shagur would have meant triplex, moshzar means sixfold &c. Erub. 96b בש׳ it means twisted threads (yarn,, which is not used for weaving).
