שעועית f. (שעע; cmp. שעוה) a species of beans, prob. kidney-bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris), v. ססילתא, a. חלוקה. Kil. I, 1 וכ׳ והש׳ הלבן פול Y. ed. a. Ms. M. (Mish. a. Bab. ed. שעועים, corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) the white bean and the kidney-bean are not heterogeneous. Y. ib. 27a top expl. פסילתא (פתילתה). Ib. שמשעשעת ש׳ שמה למה וכ הלב את (some ed. שעשועית) why is it called sE'e'itth (pasty)? Because it pastes up (dulls) the heart, and loosens the bowels.
