שרק I, שריק ch. same. Targ. Lam. II. 5, sn. Targ. Job XX VII, 23. -- Hull. 63a וש׳ כרבא . . ההוא one (bird raham) sat among cabbage and whistled. Ib. אמידי רתיב רקרק ושריק Ar. (ed. שרקרק ועביד, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. notes 40, 50) sits on some object (not on the ground), and sings rakrak; וכ׳ ושריק אערעא יתיב אי when it sits on the ground and sings, the Messiah will come; Yalk. Lev. 5 37.
שרק II = שרג, to glide, slide. Nidd. 3b וכ׳ שרקי מיא water (when poured out of an inclined vessel) slides, but fruits do not slide (and you must invert the vessel in order to empty it). Hull. 11 1a שריק משרק דמא (Ms. R. 2, a. Ar. שריג משרג, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 60) blood glides of, v. סרך II. Pa. שריק to cause to slip, make lippery. B. שרר (b. h.) to be great, to rule. IHibhpa. הששתרר to make one's self lord; (homilet.; cmp. שרבב) to stretch one's self. Yoma9b (play on מהשתרע, Is. XXVIIi, 20) כאחד רעים שני עליו מהשתרר זה מצע קצר this couch is too narrow for two lovers tto stretch themmselves on it (Ms. O. a. Yalk. Is. 302 מהשתרע, v. שרע); Snh. 103b מלהשתרר.
שרר m. (b. h. שר, with suffix שרר׳; שרר to knot, chain) navel, umbilical cord. Num. R. s. 1a (ref. to Cant. VII, 3) בש׳ משולה והיא and it (the Sanhedrin) is compared to the navel; וכ׳ הזה הש׳ מה as the navel is placed in the centre of the body, so are the Sanhedrin &c.; Tanh. Ki Thissa 2 (in parallels טיבור). Ib. הש׳ ומן . . . הזה הש׳ מה וכ׳ אוכל הוא as with regard to the umbilical cord, so long as the child is in its mother's womb, its mouth is closed, and it is fed from the umbilical cord, so &c. Tanh. Thazr. 5 וכ׳ עמו יוצא שוררו its navel comes out with it (the infant) . , and the mother has to cut it of.

שררה f. (שרר) rulership, authority, office. Y. Peah VIII, 21a וכ׳ שניתנה ש׳ שכל לומר to indicate that what authority is given to a man, is given by the Law. Lev. R. s. 20 (in the prayer of the high priest on the Day of Atonement) וכ׳ ש׳ ישראל יגביהו ואל and let Israel not assume high power one over the other; . . דקסרין רבנן ש׳ יגביהו שלא the Rabbis of Cesarea say, (he prayed,) 'concerning our brethren in Cesarea, that tthey may not assume authority'; Y. Yoma V, 42c top. Ib. VI, 43 top הש׳ מן שברח who fed in order not to take an office; ib. לש׳ נכנס שלא who did not enter office. Y. Taan.
