Sir Geoffrey became a Crusader, and the crest of the Warburtons is borne to com- memorate an exploit performed by liim. In the Uarleian MrfS. I'Ad, p. 68, is a transcript from an ancient family record taken by Laurence Bostoke, 1572, in which the exploit is thus alluded to : " This G.dfrid lived I^IJ', he was servynge his prince and vanqujshed a Sarraziu in eombate, then begynnyng to scale with the Sarraziu'a head." In the Lansdowne MSS. 825, p. 185, this Sir Geoll'ry, jun., is said to have had another son, named William, from whom Peter War- burton, of Grafton, alterwards Judge of the Common Pleas, descended. Sir Geoffry, .jun., d. before 1383, and was x. by liis eldest sur- viving son, John Wabbubton, of Warburton, m. Agnes, daughter of Richard de Wevebe, and dying before 1391, was s. by his son, Petee Waebueton, of Warburton, who fought at the battle of ShreHsbury, at tlie side of Henry Percy, for which he received theroyal pardon, 5th September, -1 Hexby IV, His seal exhibited " two chevrons and a mul- let on a canton," with two di-agons lor sup- porters, circumscribed " S. Galfride de War- burgtone." He was llie last of the family who bore this coat. He m. Alice, daughter of Sir Henry Bbaylsforo, and rf. 8 Henry V, leaving issue, Pelcr, d. s. p., and Sib Geoffey Waebueton, Knt., of War- burton, who was constituted Seneschal of Halton by the Earl of Buckingham, and knighted before 10 Henry '1. Ue used on his seal a cormorant, the basis of the present coat. He »i. Ellen, sister of John Bkuvn of Tarvin, and by her (who m. secondly Henry Leigh, and thirdly, Ralph Guos- VENOE) left issue, l.
