And may this consecrated hour
With better hopes be fill'd.

Thy love the pow'rs of thought bestow'd,
To Thee my thoughts would soar,
Thy mercy o'er my life has flow'd,
That mercy I adore.

In each event of life, how clear
Thy ruling hand I see!
Each blessing to my soul more dear,
Because conferr'd by Thee.

In ev'ry joy that crowns my days,
In every pain I bear,
My heart shall find delight in praise,
Or seek relief in pray'r.

HYMN 136.

While with ceaseless course, the sun
Hasted through the former year,
Many souls their race have run,
Never more to meet us here.

Fix'd in an eternal state,
They have done with all below;
We a little longer wait,
But how little none can know.

Swiftly thus our fleeting days
Bear us down life's rapid stream!
Lord to Heav'n our wishes raise;
All on earth is but a dream.
