WILLIAM RODGER THOMSON.

Long years have pass'd—the Kaffir girl
Still loves to come at eve,
And sit upon some beetling crag,
And with the sad sea grieve.

Poor Amakeya! years shall pass,
And white men still shall come
Across that sea, and still press on,
And take thy new-found home!

But while one black man shall be found
Where thousands now do rove,
Shall still the touching tale be told
Of Amakeya's love.
