Mr. Joseph Farror, an auctioneer, who lived in High Street, bequeathed the sum of sixpence per week, to be paid for ever out of the rent of a house in Bradford Street, for cleaning the statue and basement. The money to be received by the churchwardens of St. Martin's.

The first mention of our townsman, Mr. Samuel Lines, the artist, is in connection with Nelson's Statue. On November 6, 1809, a short paragraph informs us that Mr. Samuel Lines, drawing master, of this place, has published an accurate likeness of the Nelson Statue, erected in this town, drawn and etched by himself."
