Cerimonie. A ceremonie; a rite, custome, or fashion in, or about, religion.

Cerimonieusement. Ceremoniously, with great reuerence, many ceremonies, much ado.

Cerimonieux: m. euse: f. Ceremonious; affecting, following, or full of, ceremonies.

Cerin: m. as Serin. A small bright-greene bird.

Cerin-perse. A bright skie-colour.

Cerisaye: f. A cherrie garden; an orchard of cherrie trees.

Cerise: f. A cherrie. Cerises d'outre mer. The berries of the hearbe Nightshade, called by our Hearbarists, winter cherries. Fair d'une cerise trois morceaux. To eat nicely, feed daintily; to mince it, or make it goodlie. Cest folie de manger cerises avec son seigneur: Prov. Cerne: m. A circle, round, compasse; inclosure; a turning round, fetching a compasse, wheeling about.

Cerné: m. ée: f. Incircled, compassed with a circle; inuironed, or inclosed round about; also, rounded, compassed, or wheeled about.

Cerneau: m. The kernell of a nut, &c. Cerneau d'aulx. A cloue of garlick.

Cerner. To incircle, compasse with a circle; inuiron, or inclose round about; also, to make a round, fetch a compasse, wheele about. Cerner les arbres. To make a round slit, or incision into the barkes of trees; to open or cut them round about. Cerner des noix. To crack Wallnuts; or, to open them, and picke out their kernels, with a Cernoir. Cernoir: m. A little blunt, and hulch-backt yron toole, or knife, (of some two fingers length, & hauing a woodden handle about an inch thick, and three fingers long) wherewith countrey people cut ripe wallnuts in two (while they are yet in the shale) and picke out the kernels. De l'arbre d'un pressoir le manche d'un cernoir: Prov. To make of a verie great, a verie small, thing, by often handling, or altering, & euer cutting away, some peece or other, of it.

Ceroesne. as Ceroine. Ceroine: f. Any ointment, or plaister, whereof rozen, or wax are the principall ingredients.

Ceromantie: f. Diuination, or soothsaying, by wax put into water.

Cerot: m. A seare-cloth; or plaister made of wax, gum, or other cleauing simples.

Cerouënne: f. Any ointment, or plaister, whereof wax or rozen are the chiefe ingredients.

Cerquemage. as Cerquemanage.

Cerquemanage: m. An assignement of bounds, a limi-*

  • tation of marches, an appointment of meeres betweene the lands of seuerall (priuate) men; or betweene priuat mens lands, and those which belong to the publike; as commons, high-wayes, riuers; &c.


Cerquemané: m. ée: f. Bounded, limited, whose marches are appointed, whose meeres assigned, and set, by publicke Officers.

Cerquemanement: m. An assigning of bounds, an appointing of marches, a setting of meeres betweene land and land.

Cerquemaner. To limit, assigne, or set meeres, appoint marches, lay out the bounds of land.

Cerquemaneurs: m. Certaine sworne Officers, who haue authoritie to set, or plucke vp, meeres and bounds betweene seuerall mens possessions; and to examine, & reforme incroachments made vpon high-wayes, commons, riuers, &c.

Cerre: m. Th' vnprofitable wild oke, tearmed, the Holme oke.

Cerres: f. as Serres; A hawkes talants; also, the pulse called great Chichlings, or flat peason; Looke Pois Cerre. Cerres sauvages. Wild Chichlings, milke Vetches.

Cerresine: f. Gumme; or, liquor becomming like rozen, or gumme.

Certain: m. A certaintie, certaine truth, surenesse, assurednesse. Tesmoing de certain. A witnesse that assures, or saies he knowes, all he sayes.

Certain: m. aine: f. Sure, doubtlesse, vnauoidable; assured, most true, vnfained; approued; cleere, manifest; appointed, determined; firme, steadie, fast; constant, faithfull, trustie. Certaines personnes que. Certaine, or some persons that, &c.

Certainement. Certainly, doubtlesly, surely, assuredly, verily, in truth, questionlesse; vnauoydably; cleerely, manifestly.

Certaineté. as Certitude. Certe. à la certe. Certainly, doubtlesly, questionlesse.

Certeau à deux testes. The name of a verie tender and delicate peare.

Certes. Surely, verily, truly, &c; as Certainement. À certes. In sooth, in earnest, roundly, throughly, to purpose, without dalliance, or delay.

Certificateur: m. A certifier, ascertainer, assurer; also, an Informer, or notice-giuer.

Certification: f. A certificat, a passeport; also, a certification, ascertaining, assuring of.

Certifié: m. ée: f. Certified, assured, ascertained; informed, or aduertised of; made acquainted with.

Certifier. To assure, auouch, ascertaine; also, to certifie, informe, aduertise, or send word of; giue notice, or intelligence, vnto.

Certioré: m. ée: f. Certified, informed, aduertised of, made acquainted with.

Certitude: f. A certaintie; an assured notice, or true knowledge of.

Cerve: f. A Hind.

Cerveau: m. The braine.
  Cerveaux à bourlet. Ignorant Lawyers, dunsicall pleaders, pettifoggers.
  Cerveaux enfroquez. Monkes, or Fryers.
  Cerveau mal cuict. A light, giddie, rash, humorous, fantasticall, or ill-digested disposition.
  Petit cerveau. as Cervelet.
  Avoir le cerveau vn peu gaillard. To be humorous, toyish, fantasticall, new-fangled.
