ROUMANIAN GRAMMAR.

Indeterminate Pronouns.

Their list is very long, but it may be sufficient to indicate the principle of their formation, which is to prefix to the interrogative pronouns one of the particles o, ve, fie:

orĭ cine, orĭ care, orĭ ce, whoever, whatever.
verĭ cine, verĭ care, verĭ ce,
fie cine, fie care, fie ce,

Or, by affixing the particle va to them:

cineva, careva, ‘some one;’ ceva, ‘something.’

To these we add:

un, vre un, ‘some one;’ ni un, ‘no one;’
numenĭ or nime, ‘nobody;’
niṣte, ‘some;’ alt, ‘other.’

Verbs (Verbe).

In order to render the study of the verbs easier, we will class them under three heads, according to the termination of the infinitive present in a, e, or i. Before considering these inflections let us look at the three verbs—a ave, ‘to have;’ a fi, ‘to be;’ and a voi, ‘to will;’ which serve as auxiliary verbs. ‘To will’ being a regular verb, we insert it here only in the present indicative.

A ave, ‘to have.’

Indicative Present (Presentul Indicativuluĭ).

eŭ am, ‘I have.’ noĭ avem,
tu aĭ, voĭ aveṭĭ,
el are, eĭ aŭ.
