Expression. This dwelling has no pretensions to any particular style of Architecture, but it is obviously expressive of the subject or purpose in view ; and, as all its details are well adapted for their various uses, whether as respects the convenience of the occupant of the cottage, or as component parts of the structure, it is also expressive of fitness. This Design may be ornamented by the addition of pillars to the porch, by a vase over it, by ornamental chimneys, and by a parapet on the terrace, fig. 17 ; or, if an architectural parapet is considered too expensive, a low hedge, fig. 18, may be substituted.
