Our opinion is, that, with the advancement of civilisation, country inns, in all parts of the world, will, as architectural objects, rank next to buildings for public offices. Sect. II. Miscellaneous Designs for Country Inns and Public Houses. 1421. 7'/(e Desif^ns submitted under this section embrace but a very few of the nu- merous varieties of inns and public houses which are suitable for the country ; but, as whoever can compose a good villa is equally competent to compose a country inn, we consider the following selection amply sufficient. We have, besides, already given a Design for a country inn combined with a farm, § 1 149, which we consider exceedingly well arranged ; and many of our cottages in Book I. will answer, with very little alter- ation, for hedge alehouses.
