LAND TRANSPORTATION

REMARKS: Land transportation is provided by motor pools attached to activities. However, the Transportation Department under the cognizance of the Public Works Officer is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all U.S. Navy vehicles in the area.

MEDICAL COMPONENT

There are no U.S. Naval Hospitals in this area. However, there are available for U.S. Naval personnel the Australian hospital facilities as indicated in column 5

REMARKS: U.S. Navy Unit in Perth Military Hospital consisting of approximately 50 beds in the Australian Army General Hospital, Hollywood. It is a 614 bed hospital. Its facilities are used to care for more serious hospital cases and to afford medical and surgical consultation service of Australian Army and U.S. Navy specialists. Two other institutes are available for cases pending evacuation to Base 10. The Wooroloo Sanitorium for TB cases; the Heathcote Reception Home, Applecross, for mental cases.

Dispensaries:

(1) U.S. Naval Dispensary, Receiving Barracks, Navy 137

The mission of this unit is to administer medical and general care for U.S. Naval Supply Depot and Receiving Barracks personnel not requiring hospitalization.

Buildings: No prefabricated structures are used. the ward consists of 35 beds, 3 of which are reserved for isolated cases.

No specialist services are rendered at this dispensary.

Personnel: 2 medical officers and 13 hospital corpsmen.

(2) U.S. Naval Dispensary, Submarine Repair Unit, Navy 137.

This dispensary provides medical, surgical and dental care for the Submarine Repair Unit, the SubRon-16 relief crew, Submarine Division 161, the Torpedo Repair Unit, as well as for the crews of the submarines refitted by this activity. In all, approximately 1200 officers and men. Sanitation of submarine rest camps is supervised by this activity.

Buildings: No prefabricated structures are used. The dispensary is a wooden structure 80' by 40'.
