AVIATION

Guildford Air Field (Cont'd)

Major repairs to airplane engines are made at Kalgoorlie and Melbourne. Fueling is done by means of a U.S. Navy gas truck (600 gal. cap), the fuel being secured from the R.A.A.F. fuel tanks consisting of 4 - 6000 gal. tanks and 1 - 1200 gal. tank which are available at the field for fueling purposes. The U.S. Navy also has a bomb truck and trailer for re-arming.

The Utility Training Unit, Aircraft, SEVENTH FLEET, has, at present, 5 SBD's and 1 R4D3. The U.S. Navy facilities are available for handling only the equipment of this unit.

Permanently assigned enlisted personnel are quartered and messed at Crawley in Navy quarters and the officers are quartered and messed in the B.O.Q. There is sufficient room to accommodate a limited number of transients in these quarters.

Normal operating personnel of the Utility Training Unit, Aircraft, SEVENTH FLEET, consists of 8 officers and 32 enlisted men.




Runway Lengths.

Two strips each 6000 feet long and 150 feet wide, and one strip 5000 feet long and 150 feet wide. Strips are bituminous sealed.

Parking Capacity.

This provides for medium bombers, 24 splinter proof bins and 36 hide-outs. There are 3 hangars:

(a) 1 hangar 180' by 120'

(b) 2 hangars 110' by 110'





There are no other "H" components.

REMARKS: Fleet Air Wing TEN, a seaplane base, has moved out and all of its facilities have been, or are in the process of being, decommissioned or taken over by other units out of this area.SECRET.
