Power Supply System.

Electric power is supplied by a Municipally owned and operated power station obtaining its electrical energy from coal.

The power station has an output of 60,000 kilowatts. It supplies:

Light at 250 volts, 40 cycle, single phase.

Power at 440 volts, 40 cycle, 3 phase.

Pontoon Assemble Plants

The Public Works Department has property along the Swan River suitable assembling and launching of pontoon sections. Wooden skids extending into the water have been installed to expedite this work.

This property is leased from the East Fremantle City Council. The Public Works Department is responsible for the upkeep and operation.

Auto Overhaul Depots

The Transportation Department, under the Public Works Officer, maintains 3 garages for repairs and maintenance of automotive equipment.

The main overhaul work is handled at the Nedlands garage, corner of Stirling Highway and Broadway, Nedlands. Greasing and minor repairs are handled at the Fremantle Garage located at the corner of High and Queen Streets, Fremantle, and body and paint repair work is handled at the garage located at No. 3 Victoria Street, Fremantle. These garages handle 345 U.S. Navy motor vehicles.

In addition to the U.S. Navy operated garages, civilian garages and repair facilities are available.




Saw Mills

The U.S. Navy operates no saw mills in this area. Civilian and State Government operated saw mills supply the needs of the Services in this area.
