Happy the Kshattriyas, O Pârtha, who obtain such a fight, offered unsought as an open door to heaven. (32)

अथ चेत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं सङ्ग्रामं न करिष्यसि । ततः स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि ॥ ३३ ॥

But if thou wilt not carry on this righteous warfare, then casting away thine own duty[1] and thine honour, thou wilt incur sin. (33)

अकीर्तिं चापि भूतानि कथयिष्यन्ति तेऽव्ययाम् । सम्भावितस्य चाकीर्तिर्मरणादतिरिच्यते ॥ ३४ ॥

Men will recount thy perpetual dishonour, and, to one highly esteemed, dishonour exceedeth death. (34)

भयाद्रणादुपरतं मंस्यन्ते त्वां महारथाः । येषां च त्वं बहुमतो भूत्वा यास्यसि लाघवम् ॥ ३५ ॥

The great car-warriors[2] will think thee fled from
