As it turned out, this was our only chance, for bad weather pre- vented further trials. We found, the Geese not difficult to photo- graph, the camera being focused from a tripod. It seemed strange to see Ross's and Lesser Snow Geese wandering along paths, bordering the lake, notwithstand- ing numerous carriages and pedestrians continually passing. The American White-fronted — sometimes, in California, called Gray Goose — was fairly common, but not so abundant as the combined numbers, of three races of Branta canadensis — butchinsi, occidentalis and minima.
