In 1866 he be- came an A.R.S.A. In 1868 he went, to Rome, and painted there his Roba di Roma (1869). Animal and still-life painter, son and pupil of James Hamilton (1640-1720, an able still-life painter, who under Cromwell left Scotland and settled at Brussels) ; also pupil of his brothers, John George and Philip Ferdinand ; entered the service of Bishop Alexander Sigismund of Augsburg, for whom ho painted a great number of pictures, several of which are now in the roval galleries of Bavaria.
